We teamed up with Pro Key Entertainment to try and sell "Get Educated" during pilot season! They made this Series Trailer! We just finished a Pitch Packet too and have some meetings planned. The work never ends, but it's worth it.
We finally finished it! So thankful to all the cast, crew, and everyone who made this possible. It feels good to have a produced TV pilot. And now onto the next step and trying to sell the series and produce more episodes. For more than year and a half, I've been working on this show. Writing, directing, and producing it. God, you never know how much time things take until you do them. We're launching the pilot online in 3 days and I'm still editing the small details. And that's why I love deadlines, because they make you f'**ing finish! A deadline makes you not sleep, see your friends, and it drives you CRAZY, but IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT! Now I'm trying to sell it and I'm excited, anxious, and freaked out.
I've spent so long knowing everything about this pilot that I read episode 2 for fun. I so badly want this show to get picked up by a network. I believe in this and I'm not the only one. And I know if the show gets sold and picked up, things have to change and I totally want that. For one, let's get a higher budget! Because we made this for next to nothing. I want this show to change and grow and be something alive. That's what life is all about. And the thing is, I've written ten movies, four pilots, and about six specs of other shows, but for some reason, and I can't even figure out why, this one is my favorite. I just know I want to always be a part of it and whoever buys it, I'm gonna work my ass of them to make this show succeed. "Get Educated" is something I want to write, read, and see more of. It reminds me of how happy I was when "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation" were on the air and how much I cared about those characters. I followed them week after week for years. April and Andy's wedding was better than any real wedding in my life. And Jim and Pam's first kiss is way more memorable than my first kiss. I loved those shows and I love this. So let's see what happens... Jordan Imiola Writer and Director of "Get Educated." The new TV show, "Get Educated," is proudly based in Buffalo and there's plenty of evidence of that in the pilot. Where else would you find Millard Fillmore Middle School? "Get Educated" is a new mockumentary about teachers learning how to educate terrible teenagers. Imagine if "The Office" took place in a middle school. In the latest clip, you can see one of cast members, Carson James Freeman, is wearing a Sammy Watkins jersey and the kid behind him is wearing a University of Buffalo t-shirt. In the first scene of the pilot, you can see Mr. Garret's history class has posters of Buffalo City Hall and The Buffalo Courier-Express (the classic Buffalo newspaper before The Buffalo News). There's also a UB Buffalo promptly found on the corner of Mr. Garret's desk.  We also made posters for Buffalo Sports teams for all the gym class scenes. These teams included the Buffalo Bisons, Buffalo Bandits, Buffalo Blizzard, and Buffalo Braves. And yes, we know two of those teams don't exist anymore. Also, the name of the school's football team are the Millard Fillmore Buffalos.  And of course, we didn't forget about the Bills, Sabres, and UB Bulls. The director, Jordan Imiola, cast many of the student teenagers to wear Buffalo clothing. He also made them become Buffalo Bills fans before giving them the part. Okay, that's not true, but he thought about it.  The props of our Principal's office included a poster by a Buffalo artist, Caitlin Krumm, and a Buffalo Bills flask next to it.  So why so much Buffalo love, especially when "Get Educated" was filmed in Los Angeles? It's because the writer and creator, Jordan Imiola, was born and raised in Buffalo. He also graduated with a degree in Television and Film Arts from Buffalo State College. before pursuing screenwriting in Hollywood. Jordan didn't want to write something that took place in L.A. or N.Y. because most TV shows do. And he noticed successful mockumentaries like "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation" take place in cities that have a sense of community. (i.e. Scranton, PA and Pawnee, IN.) So he thought Buffalo, NY would be the perfect place. And he remembered there hasn’t been a TV show that’s taken place in Buffalo since “Jesse” with Christina Applegate. Remember this? She used to work at the Polish Villa II in Cheektowaga.  Also Jordan and his girlfriend love Buffalo. They are die-hard Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fans. Their walls are covered in Allentown Art Festival posters and pictures of Buffalos. And Jordan's only tattoo is a Buffalo named Frank who was named after the hot sauce.
